Romantic Lake Michigan Islands

Custom Search

There are amazing Lake Michigan islands off the northwest coast of Michigan's lower peninsula. These islands are for those of you who really enjoy an isolated, romantic, "getting away from it all" experience. The sunsets seem to be more awash with color, and night-time skies are clear and flooded with stars.

Getting to the islands is a fun experience in itself. Ferry rides from Charlevoix to Beaver Island and from Leland to the Manitou islands can be quite romantic and are an enjoyable "days gone by" experience.

Lake Michigan Islands are romantic!

Beaver Island is the largest and only inhabited island. It can also be accessed by plane (from Charlevoix). This island has about 500 year-round residents but grows during the summer tourist season. It does have a few motels, lodges and inns but they fill quickly so make reservations well in advance. There are also cabin and home rentals available.

Comfortable lodging, great food, all the amenities are here for an unforgetable romantic Beaver Island vacation, getaway or honeymoon.

The one nice thing about Beaver Island vacation is it's affordable. It may be the best kept island vacation secret in the world. Overnight accommodations start at around $100. You can rent a lake front home for around a $1000 a week. These are much cheaper prices than the mainland and ... no hustle and bustle.

If you enjoy exploring nature, rugged wilderness camping, or hiking, then the Manitou Islands are for you. Accessible only by boat, these beautiful islands are a part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. Giant cedars and amazing sand dunes give you unforgetable, panoramic views of Lake Michigan in all its splender.

North and south Manitou islands are beautiful but rugged. Make sure you are in good physical health if you are planning a camping trip here (it's rugged).

When your near the tip of the lower peninsula there are a couple must visits. The Mackinac Bridge spans five miles of the straits and is awesome! Mackinac Island makes a great day trip or if time and money allow a real romantic getaway.
